Bowling For Columbine

A representation given to American people in bowling for columbine would be there obsession with the second amendment, more specifically their love for guns. This representation is given to the American people Throughout the documentary and is queried if this may be the cause for the high murder rate in America and frequent school shootings. The representation is based of a stereotype that all Americans are gun nuts, The documentary challenges this stereotype when comparing the amount of guns in America compared to the amount in Canada, a country which is generally stereotyped as having a generally safe and caring society and shows that the amount of gun ownership is in fact a lot closer than most people might think.
Another representation the documentary shows is the stereotype of Americans being extremely patriotic this is shown

It also challenges the stereotype of 'all Americans are patriotic' as the creator himself seems to be ashamed of how America came to be what it is today. The fact that he is American could also bring a bias view to the subject, this could allow him to only access the negative around guns to bend the truth and give a person from an outside view of America a negatively glorified view.
