Hawaii 50
The instant display and focus on the FBI and their members instantly hints at the show being primarily a crime and detective shown right of the bat, the show then switches scenes to Chin Ho asleep in his house, he is then drugged and taken by unidentified kidnapper, this further reinforces the show being a TV crime drama as it depicts a cliche kidnapping mystery shown in many other shows of the same genre.
The hybrid of genres depicted are mystery and action, this is shown through the initial kidnapping of Chin Ho and the later the excessive violence shown in the prison riot. the kidnapping suggests a mystery as his fellow co workers later have to find out what had happened to Chin Ho
The set up was shown with the initial drugging and kidnapping of Chin Ho, this is then built upon by the slow realisation of his co workers at the FBI, the suspicion starts with his therapist reporting that he hadn't shown up for his session that evening, this allows for his co workers to begin the investigation into his kidnapping and whereabouts, they go to his house to discover evidence that Chin had been kidnapped, and will be the start of what will turn into something much bigger.
Hawaii 50 uses an open narrative to present there stories in a series format, this is done to allow the writers to make many plot lines and also allows different characters to come and go allowing for a vary of characters and plots. this is shown in this episode as 2 characters from earlier seasons are presented with vengeance in mind for earlier events.
